In November 1947, the General Assembly of the United Nations laid the foundation for the State of Israel. In May 1948, David Ben-Gurion read out the Declaration of Independence. In May 1949, the sovereign state of Israel was admitted to the international community.
Israel exists. In this year, it will have been in existence for 70 years. Energetic, committed and confident. As a pluralist society with a parliamentary democracy. With fair elections. With independent courts. With vivid media.
Israel is on guard because the country has been threatened and attacked since the day of its foundation. All the same, the people of Israel do not give up seeking and finding peace with its neighbours.
